"What is the BEST diet for thyroid patients?" ISSUE 159, 15th August 2024 Welcome to all members of our thyroid family, new and old. It's lovely to have you here and a part of our thyroid family. π€ This free email newsletter goes out every two weeks on a Thursday and is the best way to keep up to date on all my work and hear directly from me without relying on social media algorithms! I hope you'll find this issue inspiring, reassuring and useful in your own thyroid journey. My aim is to share the information you need to live well with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's, as well as keep you up-to-date with what I'm doing in the thyroidsphere! β Thursday Thoughts Many people with hypothyroidism / Hashimotoβs are keen to know whether a change in their diet could yield reduced symptoms of fatigue, joint pain and indigestion, among many others. π² Now, first and foremost, I have to make it clear that there is no magical diet thatβs going to cure your hypothyroidism, no matter what you read online. π Secondly, when it comes to nutrition and what we eat, itβs important to be aware that what makes one person feel well or unwell, can have the opposite effect on another, and this is certainly true with thyroid patients, where some feel the benefit of removing certain types of food and others do not. π₯¬ The short answer is: no ONE diet works best for everyone. π Weβre all different and often find that different things work for different people. π₯ There are plenty of different ways to eat out there and different dietary changes work for different people. π₯ If you want to attempt removing something from your diet to see if you feel better without it - sure, give it a go. An elimination diet for a few weeks can be useful for this. (NOTE: Please test for things like coeliac wherever possible, before removing gluten!) π§ But overall, eating a nutrient dense diet is always going to be beneficial to thyroid patients in terms of supporting energy levels and optimum health. π« Iβd be wary of removing loads of things. This can lead to low nutrient levels, increased fatigue, stress and also disordered eating behaviours. βReads my full article about diet here.β βYou can also find my FULL info about this and more, in my book ββBe Your Own Thyroid Advocateβ. β Thursday Health Check-in My latest test results came back! Thyroid hormone levels still optimal, Hashimoto's still in remission, Vitamin D and B12 optimal but ferritin... still low! It's finally back in range however, but only just. So the supplements and a retest continues. I am being referred to a specialist for my itchy and sore scalp causes... so I am hopeful to find out what's finally going on there. β Outro - β β - Rachel Hill, The Invisible Hypothyroidism Follow Rachel on: Facebook | Instagram | Threads | Twitterβ β Sponsor a future issue of this newsletter and share your services or product with over 9,000 readers. π Interested?
