"I didn't get better on levothyroxine." ISSUE 158, 1st August 2024 Welcome to all members of our thyroid family, new and old. It's lovely to have you here and a part of our thyroid family. π€ This free email newsletter goes out every two weeks on a Thursday and is the best way to keep up to date on all my work and hear directly from me without relying on social media algorithms! I hope you'll find this issue inspiring, reassuring and useful in your own thyroid journey. My aim is to share the information you need to live well with hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's, as well as keep you up-to-date with what I'm doing in the thyroidsphere! β Thursday Thoughts A lot of thyroid patients do not get better on Levothyroxine. Yes, believe it or not but Levothyroxine / Synthroid (T4 only thyroid meds) do not work for everyone. I continued to have ongoing fatigue, depression, muscle pain, brain fog, daily migraines and SO much more on t4-only meds. And this is the same for many others. It wasnβt until I switched to NDT, which contains direct T3 meds, that these symptoms disappeared and my health finally recovered. Years later and after the birth of my first child, my needs changed again and I then needed NDT plus 25mcg of Levo, which Iβm still on, but the fact is: I need that direct T3 to feel well! Do you relate? You can find my FULL story about going from Levo to NDT meds in my book βBe Your Own Thyroid Advocateβ. β Thursday Health Check-in I have started tranexamic acid for the heavy periods as all investigations came back negative for now and my iron levels have continued to drop further with each period. I tested a full thyroid panel along with iron, Vit D etc.. last week with Medichecks and am awaiting results. The current theory for my ongoing reflux issues since my first pregnancy 5 years ago is a change to my stomach caused by that pregnancy. I am being referred to a specialist for my itchy and sore scalp causes... so I am hopeful to find out what's finally going on there.
