"How is thyroid tired different?"
ISSUE 109, 25th August 2022
β
Introduction
β
Welcome, Thyroid Family, to Issue 109 of The Free Thyroid Family Newsletter.
β
Two and a half months postpartum from child number 2 and Iβm starting to flag. I wasnβt doing too bad, but in the past few weeks Iβve noticed my body slowing down. π₯±
β
Things Iβm going to focus on improving:
β
β’ Eating better - itβs been so easy to reach for less nutritious foods but I feel so much more energetic when Iβm eating a variety of food and not just convenience foods.
β
β’ Supplements - Iβve fell out the habit of taking them every night and itβs more like a couple of nights a week I actually take themβ¦ certain ones such as Vit D, Iron and my probiotic I definitely need.
β
β’ Getting to bed earlier - After a hectic day of caring for 2 young children, by the time theyβre both finally asleep in the evening, I want to have some time to myself to relax. But Iβve had way too many 12am bedtimes lately. With a newborn waking me up a few times a night, I need to hit the hay sooner.
β
β’ Exercise - I need to be more mindful about doing enough and not too much. I was out walking for 5 hours the other day and my body was not happy about it... π¬
β
Iβm feeling constantly exhausted at the moment and suspect adrenal and gut imbalances at play, so working on the above will help to support my body back to a better place as I adjust to this crazy new season of life running around after 2 young children and everything that brings.
β
Also going to test thyroid and vitamin levels again soon too.
β
βThis newsletter issue is titled "How is thyroid tired different?" in regards to the topic of trying to tell 'parent tired' apart from it, however, it also includes information on thyroid related news and links to my most popular social media posts from the last fortnight. Enjoy reading.
β
And remember: if you find this free newsletter useful, you can upgrade to the premium version here and support the work I do as a thyroid advocate, so I can continue putting thyroid information out in to the world. π¦ π¦ π¦
β
Happy reading, thyroid thrivers.

Social Health Awards Finalist!
β
I was really surprised to receive the news that Iβm a finalist again for the Social Health Awards this year (previously known as WEGO Health Awards), for the award βSocial Media Masterβ.
β
Surprised because I usually ask for my followers to vote for me when nominated in order to help get to the finalist stage, but just didnβt have the time to do this, this year.
β
Since having my second child 2 months ago, life has been chaotic to say the least!
β
β
But anywho, Iβm so surprised and honoured to receive the news of being a finalist again, for the award βSocial Media Masterβ.
β
These awards celebrate patient leaders sharing their health stories to help others, with thousands of nominations were made each year, so to be 1 of 6 finalists for this award is incredible.
β
βGoing from being in such poor health with autoimmune hypothyroidism, to thriving in life again and sharing that with other thyroid patients, has been one heck of a ride. At my worst point, I was bed-bound, unable to climb stairs without my partnerβs help and unfortunately suicidal.
β
Trying my best to help others in that situation is a true passion and I really do believe, my calling. I am beyond excited that thyroid disease is in the spotlight and I feel so privileged to be in this position.
β
As many of you know already, I work hard in advocating for better awareness, diagnosis and treatment of hypothyroidism, Hashimotoβs and all its related conditions and effects to our lives, and when I say that I am passionate about giving thyroid patients a voice and helping as many people as possible, I really do mean it. Thyroid advocacy is my passion.
β
Keeping authenticity and raw honesty behind my work, I am always open about my own thyroid journey and this is what makes The Invisible Hypothyroidism so unique.
β
The time I can give to my thyroid advocacy work is very limited right now as I am on maternity leave, which is what makes this finalist news even more of a surprise.
β
Winners of these awards are announced on August 25th via a virtual ceremony. Stayed tuned on my social media for any updates.

What Happens to Thyroid Health: Postpartum
β
Before I ever fell pregnant, I often wondered (and worried) what pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum would do to my thyroid health.
β
Living with autoimmune hypothyroidism, my health could be up and down and, after having managed to get it stable for a couple of years, I started to think about starting my own family but remained curious about whether it would have any long lasting impact on my Hashimotoβs and hypothyroidism.
β
β
Now three pregnancies and two births later (I miscarried my first), I have gained insight that I hope is useful to others perhaps thinking about embarking on this stage in their lives.
