Thursday Thoughts
I've been feeling a little disheartened lately.
β
As you all know, I have a new baby and not as much time to dedicate to my thyroid advocacy work right now. As a result, any time I do have has to be prioritised in terms of spending it where I think is most important, in order to reach as many people as possible to provide thyroid support, information and reassurance to those who need it.
β
So as I've watched my social media reach and engagement fall these past few months, I suspect due to me not being online as much as previously (because, you know, I'm taking care of a new baby!) it got me down a little.
β
It seems that Instagram in particular is favouring accounts which log on regularly and post a lot of video content, which I've been struggling to keep up with, so when I do post, I'm being somewhat penalised.
β
I shared more about this in the short video I posted here. But in short, if you want to keep seeing my thyroid info, please do engage and interact when you see it online. π
β
So, I have also been playing around with my social media the past couple of weeks, namely Instagram, figuring out if my content needs a refresh over there in order to stay relevant and useful. I'm also having a think about how to give this newsletter a bit of a refresh, too. So you may see me experimenting with things a little!
β
As a result of this, can I ask for your help?
β
β¨ Do you love the thyroid family newsletter? I'd love to hear about it! If you've got 2 minutes to spare, please consider leaving a review here! β¨
β
Feedback really helps me to figure out if I'm serving the thyroid community in the way they need.
β
For those of us in the northern hemisphere, we're now entering the autumnal months, so I also wanted to remind us all to check our thyroid levels again. Doing so each time the seasons change can be really beneficial. Read more about why here.β
β
We are also nearing the end of Thyroid Cancer Awareness Month. Find my article on this below, for sharing on social media and with friends and family.
β
And lastly, the 20th September marked three whole years since my bestselling book "You, Me and Hypothyroidism" was released! Check out my post on this here, and view it on Amazon here.
β
β
Thursday Health Check-in
I've added this section to my newsletter introduction in order to hold a space for me to give updates about my own thyroid journey. I know sharing my personal experiences can be useful to others going through a similar situation.
β
Currently, my health is pretty good (sleep deprivation aside!). I've been having some acid reflux, so I've been concentrating on looking after my gut health (such a big part of the thyroid jigsaw puzzle) and eating a little better.
β
Outro -

Book Review: Healing Your Body Naturally After Childbirth by Dr. Jolene Brighten
β
β
Healing Your Body Naturally After Childbirth: The New Momβs Guide To Navigating The Fourth Trimester wasnβt a straight up βthyroid bookβ, but did touch on the importance of thyroid health as well as the many other related facets of having thyroid disease, when youβre recovering from childbirth.
After all, many women develop a thyroid condition or are diagnosed with one, following pregnancy, as it can cause it to trigger or βramp upβ.

"I always knew that I wanted to be a mum. However, when I received my thyroid diagnosis back in 2015, I spent a good while rethinking whether I still wanted to be a parent one day, now that I had a chronic illness..."

Thyroid Brain Fog
β
Brain fog is often described as feelings of mental confusion or lack of mental clarity. The phrase comes from the feeling of a fog that reduces your ability to think clearly. It can feel like a mental block and can cause a person to become forgetful, detached and discouraged. They may even become depressed as a knock-on effect. Brain fog is a common symptom of thyroid problems, particularly hypothyroidism.
